  • Damage to Cockerel's Comb

Our young Welsummer boys have been sorting out their pecking order over the last week, but they have done some damage to each others combs through pecking/grabbing hold of etc.

All wounds are clean, and scabbed over with no infection etc; however they look a bit of a mess. Will these eventually heal up to look more normal?

they will heal up ok. sometimes they scar occasionally, depends on how badly they were damaged in the first place and if the scabs are pecked at during the healing process.

They will be fine, as BP says. They heal over remarkably quickly, even if they do look a bit of a mess at the time. I have had cocks that have half killed each other and yet still managed to end up looking as good as new after a bit of a rest!

Thanks! They seem to have established some sort of order; and I'm not being attacked any more either... phew!
