"Polly Pocket" the latest ex-batt and her coat

Hiya folks,

just thought you might like to see an ex-batt with one of the fleece coats on. We put it on her as she hardly has any feathers and the rain has done nothing but pour down over the last two days and she is getting cold.

You will notice that the ground is very muddy under foot - this is due to all the snow melt has opened up new springs all around the farm! we have had to move the pigs twice as they are swimming in their last pen!

Anyways, she seems happier now! I really do recommend the use of fleece jumpers on hens if they are bald like Polly. it also helps guard against her new pin feathers getting nipped off by inquisitive hens.

Sadly, because they are cheaper than the free range alternatives, and people don't always know - or they choose not to know.

If you put a piccy of polly pocket on a packet of battery eggs, maybe they would not look such a good buy - but then maybe not everyone has the luxury of choosing a more humane (= more costly) option when they are buying - which is where legislation should come in.

On a brighter note, doesn't she look a smasher in her jacket! Hope that she grows her feathers soon and can preen with pride!

I completely agree with Hazel - put a picture of a baldy on the boxes!!!! I was actually going to get a tee shirt made up, with a picture of 'oven ready' when she came to me, and add a suitable slogan. Unfortunately, I didn't get round to it. Maybe I should!

when out feeding today polly came wandering up. her coat is still spotless so i assume that she is very proud of it!

she is doing great. i found her wandering around by the kitchen door today. not bas considering that the barn where she roosts up is nearly 300m away!

she appears to walk fine now. She was a bit tired so we gave her some corn and took her back to roost up tonight!
