nesting box dimensions ?

hi just wondering how big the nesting boxes in the coup should be, it just I got another coup from friend and the nesting boxes look a little small or a bit of a snug fit for my girls, am thinking pehaps the new ones nesting boxes may have been for bantams.

About 1' cubed is ok for average hens. I use cardboard boxes.

I just built one to go on a 2' deep coop - it's 2' long, by 1' deep, and 1' high, tapering down to 10". My magpie fills the whole thing (I'd planned on it being two nestboxes, but after advice from here just going with one large one).
