Here are my 2 baby Silkies now 9 weeks old. Haven't a clue how to sex them - can anyone help?
First 2 pictures are first-born and second 2 are the second born.
silkies are notoriuosly difficult to test Sue! sometimes we have ahd it that you literally wait until they crow!
i would go along with petal however, as the second born one has a bigger "slug" on its head than the other
I know! Thats why I put it on here! Interestingly the adult females I have at the allotment are quite dissimilar with one having much less fluff on her head than the other. I thought probably these are from eggs laid by one of each adult hence the difference. The first one was the one who literally burst out of the egg so thought it might just be a boy and the second one I had to pick the shell off completely so was leaning towards a girl! Lots of play fighting but nothing in their behaviour really to give any indications! Had hoped to move them on very soon to free up space - especially as one of the adults is broody again! Looking like a monthly cycle with her!!!
They have a little perch in the dog cage where they've slept for weeks but last night they wanted a change - this is their dust bath, an old washing up bowl filled with Cozycoop! They were still there this morning!
Time to move outside I think!
... both! One crowed this morning! He's off to a local breeder a few miles away who's looking for a new white Silkie cockerel - how lucky is that! I'll keep the little girl and she can move in with her mum, aunt and sister in the "pretty girls" group all kept in order by Alfie the Wyandotte.
