Yesterday I noticed that Amber had a large dark mucky lump on one of her toes. As you do, I tried to remove it but although it didn't seem to hurt her it was stuck fast. It was still there in the evening when I did a bit of a corn scatter, so I decided to see to it this morning when it was lighter. It was still there, looking like a fat swelling, but not impeding her walking or scratching at all. I couldn't think how a lump of clay - they'd been out in the garden yesterday - could have stuck fast for so long. I brought out a bowl with an inch or so of warm water in and dunked her in. She didn't like it, stepped back several times onto my clean trouser! The others started yelling at me to leave her alone too! I soaked and poked until a filthy fibrous mass came away. It looked as if she had stuck her claw through a bit of the tough centre of a cabbage stalk and couldn't get it off. I was worried about it getting infected under there. Mind you, now her feet have never looked so nice!
