It is, yes, but I'd still need to dig the base out to the right of it.. where there is a huge parallel running root!

good idea though, someone suggesting building it around the tree - but in the recent winds it'd have taken the run aroudn it apart the amount it was swaying. Sad to cut it down, but it's done now so no going back!

I wanted to make a bench out of the stump but if it gets too much I may well end up as you suggest... I'll see how it goes on my next attack at it.

I don't see what you mean about horizonal vs cross strut - aren't they the same?

    Thanks

Sorry I'm such a plonker, I meant 2 Vertical and 3 cross struts. That'll teach me to try and multi task

Ah, thought so Planning on max widths being 3', but need to double check the measurements first!

Thinking about it - I could put the drinker on the stump if I cut it down, they always knock it over, or get dirt/poo in it. Have been wondering how I could create a sturdy base to raise it up a bit.

Bleh, just wanna get home to crack on with it!

I did a rough metric calculation on areas, came out as 4.3 sq m. How many chooks is that?
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

I have a thickish slab on top of the paving and in theory the hemp bedding flows around it. It stands in the doorway so you can reach the nest box from there without stepping on the pooey bits. In practice, they poo there too! The answer is those slip-on wellie things - I think they call them garden shoes, kept by the back door.

Yeah, my wellies are by my front door (kind of enclosed, but open porch type thing ). I need those wellie cover things so I can leave them by the back door - so they're covered and no rain can get in them.

Poo shoes are a good idea though

I would deffo incorporate the tree stump as the chooks will love it.

All of my coops connected to runs can be accessed for egg collecting from OUTSIDE the run, direct to the coop! (No need for Poo shoes!)
They can also be cleaned out without entering the run!
I don't even need to enter the runs to feed them as I have a chute to fill their food and water from outside the run, or their food is hung up inside the coop.................works for me!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

I like to go in every time because I pick up the poo each time I visit (not that tidy in our house though!) and I like to stroke and handle them regularly. It means if I have to pick one up they are used to me.
