You wan 'em Snadge? Come get 'em. Mustard eggs don't work. Fake eggs are already in the nest-boxes to encourage the youngsters. This morning I have three eggs and six empty shells!!!!! And that's only because I grabbed the last egg as it came out the poor girl's bum!
G4 - I agree, the mustard eggs went down a treat with mine when I was trying to get one of mine out the habit. Tabasco on the other hand .... Problem sorted. I was lucky!
Must admit I've had various egg eaters but never had any PERSISTANT egg eaters?
If I see a broken and eaten egg I usually check the shell first. If its thin I give them the benefit of the doubt.
I once had four eaten eggs which weren't thin shelled so I moved the nestbox to another position after changing all the stinking straw.
I've done this a few times and its worked for me up til now.
Hope anyone with egg eater problems get them sorted as it must be a downer to be seeing this every morning.

:O They all in the same run, or do you have separate runs? Man, all you lot on here have so much space - i'm jealous!
Nope, I have two allotments. In total, about half of one allotment is taken up with chicken coops and runs.....4 runs,4coops.
I also have a 10X12 greenhouse with small coop in it housing Sid and his harim of 5 for the winter.
I would love to have a seperate 'cock pen' but my cockerels have been apart so long that if I put them all in together I would get a bloodbath!

I'm getting 3 eggs a day from 8 layers at the moment....had one or two per day over winter , so they are certainly coming back into lay- slowly slowly!

Got any pics of them snadger? My broody LS has given up laying eggs now - boo! Down to two a day from three. I think three was the right amount per day for us - but I'd really like 2 or three more to be honest.
Well my girls are in reverse gear! Was getting between 11 and 14 eggs a day up until the weekend but yesterday only got 5 . That's less than they produced all through the winter - never less than 6 a day even in the -13 days! Admittedly the 2 deceased Black Rocks were both very good regular layers so we're missing theirs.
Oh dear does that mean I need to go and buy a couple more POL?
I love the feather on black rocks.. the green plumage is really iridescent through the black feathers, and tinted on their neck colour - lovely!
I'd quite like a bluebell for the same reason - I love their markings - kind of remind me of cockatiels I kept yonks and yonks ago - I bred a silver-tipped (my own wording) lacewing - funky! then that with a lutino - came out ghost like (presumably due to them being hybrids) -- much like those bluebells!
This morning, I mixed up a small bowl of 'goo' a flour and water paste, with half a bottle of Encona Hot Sauce! Filled three egg shells, and located them in the favourite boxes...
Eat them at your peril!
