I've got a catalogue for an artist called Edward Hasell McGosh, mostly paintings of chickens. My husband wanted to commission him to paint some of my chooks for a present. He said he only paints chooks he is attached to, so needs people to send their chooks to live with him for a few months while he gets to know them and then he might paint them. The paintings are a bit classical for my taste and range from £450 - £2000. Needless to say, I am not getting one!!

He sounds scary... I used to loads of commissioned work before I became an art teacher.Pippin and Filli were the first chickens I ever tried painting! I usually do horses!
I intend to get my act together as I have a studio now! Albeit full of incubators....

Nice one, Petal! I can draw - but the only thing I can paint is Dulux on walls!

I looked at his work eliza jay and you are right, its very victorian but would look great in the right sort of house. The prices are actually very good, one of the reasons i am tentative about going back into doing commissions is that many people can't understand that you should charge more than a pair of shoes cost, or a print from ikea. As it is hours and hours of work I got sick of being demeaned, as I recall. I could produce some silly abstract pieces however that take 10 minutes and rent a gallery in london and make 1000s and 1000s!!!

Love the piccy petal - I cannot draw or paint to save my life but know just what you mean on the pricing front.

Wow that's good Petal, it really is time you got your finger out! I would expect people to pay you for your time and talent and Shirl definitely knows where you're coming from, but in a different field.

Nice one petal. And I totally agree about pricing. I used to do head pics of horses (not commisions) and could have sold loads, provided I only charged 30quidish.
                            Hmm...my in-laws landlord is called...Edward Hassel McCosh
And yes it is the same one. Not seen any of his pictures, but he gave m-i-l a VERY nice pair of Dutch bantams, and a pair of barbu d'anvers.

That's really very good Petal. I would definitely pay a good price for a lovely painting of my pet. My Mum paints as well and she is always says she should charge more. I can draw but don't often...
