  • Two roosters for despatching.

    Hi folks,

Haven't done this before so I'm popping my cherry here: this evening I have to kill, pluck and gut two roosters. I know there are several threads covering this already but does anyone have any hints or advice?

What would be quickest (for the roosters) and for me? Any advice would be really appreciated.

Everyone has different methods, my OH does it like this
Killing a Chicken, How to Kill a Chicken
I use the broomstick method on a largefowl.
If they are small, I would skin.
Large fowl I dry pluck when warm. Pulling a small amount of feathers at one time ensures the skin doesn't tear. I start with the breast first, leaving wings and tail feathers till last.
Most grapes on here like to pluck after dipping in hot water first but that method doesn't suit me.

    Good Luck!

I was advised to pluck when warm, and found it really easy. I didn't fancy wet plucking so didn't try it. I was also advised to draw them the following day, when they had cooled, but have since been told they smell less if you do them straight away.

I watched my Dad draw them, and he has large hands, so found it difficult. He said Pheasants are soooo much easier! LOL

Good luck with them, and do let us know how it went.
