They were really kindly given to me by another Grape and have only come down the motorway about 50 miles. We knew that they were early in the season and some may be a bit old so the hatch rate probably wouldn't be great...I didn't expect things to develop so well and then die in the egg though.
I think its probably the incubator, which I haven't used before and is fully automatic. The eggs under the broodies have either hatched or been clear though two were fully developed and stopped just before pipping with biggish yolk sacs still unabsorbed.
Its all a bit sad really. One of the silkies has spraddle leg and I've just made a hobble for it out of a Band Aid. The broody then attacked the chick when I replaced it for some reason but I think its safely underneath her now. The other chicks - brown, russet striped, mottled grey and lemon yellow wyandottes and one silkie look fine so fingers crossed.
