    • I *almost* got some pure breed leghorn eggs, from the old chap at the lottie. My wife then shot down the idea saying that it wasn't right if we'd have to cull the cocks. I'd spent a week odd reading about it, and different culling methods, and gutting.

Which, I guess is fair point.. she doesn't want to eat them yet either. Perhaps after she's popped the next sprog out and things calm down a bit

Guess I'd better hide the broody coop I'd started making in the garage!

23 Orpingtons (potentially) - eeeeek! I only have 3 and they have all gone broody. The trouble is they do keep the others out of the nestbox, they are right little (actually great big) toads. I've got one incubating eggs at the moment, the others are just mooching about like great big fluffballs.

            • I currently have 3 geese eggs in the inccy. Not sure whether it will work as I have never done it before

              • I have collected my eggs. They're going in the incy, just as soon as I can find somewhere safe for it to go.

                • OK, I have the eggs. Can I just leave them in the egg trays, propped up on one side, then alternate which side is propped, instead of turning 23 eggs individually? Also, not sure how many times to turn them? Some folk say twice a day, some say as many as I can, but make sure it's an odd number so they don't spend every night on the same side.

They are going in this evening.

                    • Sounds sensible, I'm leaving them in the trays until day 18, as it's so much quicker to turn them.

                      • I have my 5 indian game due to hatch on friday (although 1 cracked and got taped up - we'll see) and my buff orp is on 9 (although these don't look too promising at the mo). Just bought a brinsea octagon 20 advance for hatching some quail, and my 2 banty's have now gone broody! argggggg, now I'm not getting any flamin eggs to eat (what was the point in getting chickens again!!!!?????????)

                        • LOL - the point of getting Chooks was to exasperate us, cost us a fortune, and keep us entertained, whilst having something else to moan about other than the usual!

                            • I turned mine 5 times a day and in opposite direction each time. My new incy turns hourly and plays a little tune as it does it! My broody Orp is moving her golf balls round the coop - she's in a different place each time I look! Thankfully the eggs I ordered 11 days ago fom a well known online auction site have finally arrived so she can sit on the real thing from tonight!

                              • ho-ho, its very entertaining reading all that!

I'm not actually incubating anything at the moment, but this morning I found one of the millefleurs sitting rather coyly on an ocean of 26 bantam eggs UNDER the broody coop!

..I may try and hatch some black/red modern game banties later on in the year for a friend (ahem).
