  • A Good Book?

    Hi all

Still awaiting a date to get the ex bats but wanted some advice on a good book for a beginner chicken keeper like myself. I dont want to breed etc just want to know how to look after them, how to feed, what i can and cant give and how to spot when things are wrong.

    Thanks in advance!

Don't laugh, but the Haynes Chicken Manual is very good!

Also, just read through as many of the threads on here that you can - I learn most of what I need on here...

I second the Haynes Manual. I actually only saw it recently while I was browsing round a bookshop and thought how good it looked. Also Katie Thear's books are very popular with a lot of first time keepers.

I read this one, that I borrowed from a friend.. it was ok, but went on a bit too long about different breeds, so I ended up skipping quite a large part of the book..

It covers the basics well though. I read the first version of the book, not sure what the revised one is like! The haynes one does look good, if I find it cheaply locally I'll grab it I think

Katie Thear's Start with Chickens book is brilliant, sensible advice from an experienced person sadly no longer with us.
I have heard that the Hayes Chicken Manual is very good though.

So glad you like it. I got it last year, and learned loads. I like the simple clear layout, finding it easy to follow, with no 'faff!'
