    I am having that space!!!

Just in from putting the girls to bed and it was the usual pile up (will perch outside but not in the coop)

there are various heads and tails sticking out but I can only see the two on the top, then new girl from Scott decides it's her turn at the bottom and launches herself rugby style into them.

Result! she is between Amber and Pecan with the rest being left to rearrange them selves on top.

It was so funny, wish i had my camera on me!

Does any one else have this fun at bed time?

The hens usually behave themselves. However two cocks who have been living together quite harmoniously since December 2009 and sharing a harem, which in reality means one is dominant but tolerant of the other and the subordinate gets a sneaky leg over now and again, have just suddenly started fighting. Have had a bit of a bloodbath but nothing fatal and I'm not separating them, have no more spare hens to provide yet another harem. If ultimately they cannot live together anymore then one will have to go into the freezer.

Anyway, subordinate cock - Sprout - has decided he wants more action and beats up dominant cock Parsnip. Parsnip has taken quite a battering these last few days and has backed down to allow Sprout the leadership, but still going in to roost with him until last night, when he flew out at dusk and went roaming round the different enclosures trying to find a way in to roost with others. Not having success and still roaming around at virtually dark we cornered him and tried to net him - he ran/flew away with loud squawking and shrieking across the field and out of sight. After hunting him down by torchlight we eventually found him squeezed into a gap between two log piles at the bottom of the garden and returned him to the hen house. So yes we do have fun at bedtimes sometimes. Tonight though, he has gone to bed as normal. Funny old things, chickens.
