  • Flubenvet advice please!

    Hi all,
I need to worm my girls. Is Flubenvet only for when you know they have worms, or can you use it as a pecautionary measure?
Where would you advise buying from (quick delivery, cheap cost, cheap p&p etc) Apologies if I shouldn't ask that!
What size tub would treat 10?

Thanks for any tips with this

You give it to them twice a year whether you see worms or not.
If you see any signs of worms between those doses then you give them another one week treatment.
And yes- you can eat the eggs

I bought mine from a farm supplies shop and it's a huge tub for the amount you actually need. i believe you can buy smaller quantities though- but no idea where from!

The Flubenvet 1 % which is marketed at small scale back garden keepers like yourself is sold in a 60 g tub. It should have a long life on it (my 250 g tub I think had a two year life when I bought it) so it will last you a while. The dosing instructions are on the tub. It is cheapest bought on line but you should be able to get it from your feed supplier or vet as well.

As with any pet or livestock, chickens should be wormed regularly whether you see worms or not. If you are seeing worms in their droppings then their worm burden is likely to be quite heavy.

I recently used a local vet who gave me a solution for worming my three hens which he made up in the clinic and it only cost 3 Euro. Not sure what the story in the UK with this would be but it is surely a cheaper alternative?

most of the on-line vet supplies sell it, if you have only a few hens you can add it to treats etc.

cut up grapes work well or flubenvet mixed with mealworms and cod liver oil over 7 days period

I use layers pellets with Flubenvet already added to them. Google Marriages Layers Pelletts to find a supplier near you. A 20kg sack is around £9 which I think is good value even if you add the courier to that as it is so esy to use.
