i have always had cockerals, but we lost our lovely boy this winter, so i need to ask a question or two. here goes; will hens go broody without a cockeral in thier life? ( i am thinking of getting some hatching eggs off ebay , to replenish, as i am down to 4 girlies, after about ten yearsfrom getting the originals.) second question; alternatively, i am thinking of getting another replacement cockeral, rather than the hatching eggs- does anyone need to rehome a white pekin cockeral, in the oxfordshire warickshire wiltshire area? or i could take a white silkie cockeral, as i like that particular crossover. thank you

Hens will go broody without a cockerel, some breeds go broody at the drop of a hat especially silkies and orpington's it's stopping them that is the problem.

One of my Rangers went broody last summer. They dont usually reckon that these hybrids, raised for the battery farms, do go broody, but Amber certainly did - she was a nowty little madame too! Good luck with getting your replacement 'chap'.

Put a Wanted ad in your local paper/shop/feed merchant for a cock. I'm sure you will be inundated with replies. Everywhere I look at the moment people are trying to move on their spare cocks - there seems to be ads everywhere. You will probably end up with about 10 to choose from!
