  • Am I just mad or bad?

Went looking for slugs under the poppy plants today as I was digging the border out. Carried them on my trowel to the hen pen and sang "here chicky chicky" as i carried out slug slaughter courtesy of Mad Madeline who is top hen and goes mental when faced with a protein snack!
Like watching tudor beheadings and I even cheered when she finished.

Am I the only person that does this - I love my hens

I always throw any good big fat ones into the chicken run on the plot next to mine. They then chase each other round like something from a Benny Hill sketch

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

We are fairly rural here so can probably get away with the singing...they all think I'm nuts anyhow. This behaviour just confirms it. Tomorrow I go searching for more whilst singing benny hill theme tune "do do doodlooo do do doodlooo do do doodlooo do"!
Must be time of the month - am enjoying their deathfest too much

I'm sure you are all having fun but be careful not to over do the slug feeding they are a mid host to internal parasite ( worms ) and a rush of protein in this way can cause prolapse in the hen.
Sorry to be a party pooper but most people I talk to are unaware of this. Earthworms do the same thing.

Mine don't like Slugs! Luckily, we don't get very many. The Geese will happily eat them, but the Chooks just look at me like I'm trying to poison them! They love worms, though.

CM - the worms are good for your soil and your lottie - throw them on there.
They can keep having the slugs and I will keep worming.
