  • Having a bad week

Sorry to moan and groan but I know you lot will understand.

More hatching problems this week (see the What are you incubating thread).
My IGs are not producing fertile eggs yet - I think the cock cannot catch the girls. They have a large enclosure (part of an orchard), maybe I will have to shut them up in a rabbit run for a week!
Have a cock with infected feet (probably a staph. infection) - he is on antibiotics. If he doesn't improve I shall have to cull him.
Have two hens with eye problems, not sure of cause. One is on antibiotics, the other I am just observing. My feeling with her is maybe she got something in it as it was very sudden onset yesterday and now improving - hope so.
We are all ill - me, OH, and kids with various bugs, colds etc.

Oh and, but sort of on the bright side, I am getting so many orders for eggs I can't keep up with the demand, and am having to turn people away which I hate doing.

Oh well, that's me done moaning now, sorry folks. Thanks for listening.

hope you feel better soon.We were ill. one after another and it ain't fun. do you think its legal to superglue 'IGs' feet to floor so cockerel can do his thing.?!! As for hatching eggs - someone did not turn up for their meticulously colected and labelled 20 silkies/ buff orpington today- bl..dy cheek! no phone call either.I really have better things to do, I sell hatching eggs as a favour to people - absolutely not because I need the money, luckily for me! good job june the buff orpington with the enormous bottom went broody today - eggs shoved under bottom!

              Thanks peeps for your support.

Feel a bit better today. The eyes on both hens are much improved and the two chicks are still alive. Not sure superglue is legal Petal but if the second fertility test is also negative I will have to make their enclosure smaller to give him a better chance. Either that or give him an older hen - he doesn't seem to have trouble catching those!

Good luck with the Orp. My Orp is sitting very tight, she hardly moves except to growl at me, and that's only when I actually touch her to make sure she is still alive!

Oh gosh, it all comes at once doesn't it? I'm glad the eye infections are improving - at least you can do something about that. We've got an elderly parent apiece in hospital at the moment - at least they are in the same one and we can double up on the visits! As they say, thinks can ONLY get better!

Going to move the orp to her own pen now she is in broody trance mode. Sad really as George her husband is standing guard and I know for a fact he protects chicks fiercely even allowing them to snuggle up under him! But the books say split her up, so I will. Glad you feel better.

Sending sympathy RH. Hassles always seem to come in batches, wish good luck would do the same.

It's always the same isn't it? Never just one thing that can be easy to manage.. everything at once and then you get ill so can't/don't feel like attempting to right things! Hope you feel better soon!
