  • Would you believe it?

We all read the posts where we get told how accurate inci's need to be, and how eggs mustn't get cold once started.
Well when my silkie broody died after about a week of sitting I didn't know how long she'd been off the eggs, but they were cold. I packed them in shavings and about three hours later they finally got put in the inci. I didn't have time to set it up, so it was 38 deg when I checked, although I did get it corrected after a bit of a fight. And the humidity has been way lower than normal. On Fri..day 18..I turned off the turner. But when nothing happened by Tues I left it running, just in case. Thinking that they'd never survive the turner going off early as well as all the rest
Lo and behold this morning an egg pipped, and tonight I have one lively little silkie singing it's head off.
Ain't they wonderful things these chickens

Doesn't the temp affect the sex of the chicks at some point? Or is that crocs? Something like that.

Wow, I've just checked again. No 2, who wasn't even a pip this morning, has hatched. No 3 who was a pip, is now going round it's shell like a chainsaw operator on speed, and no4 has a hole and is yelling blue murder
