Splash Marans - are they autosexing?

Does anyone know?

I've got these on my wish-list, but they aren't for me this time. The BH has a colleague who's getting his wife chicks for her birthday (lucky girl) and he wants to know but I can't find any info particularly on Splash Marans.

To my knowledge none of the Marans are autosexing. Apart from the classic Rhode Island Red cock x Light Sussex hen, and all the "bar" hybrid varieties, I'm not aware of any other autosexing breeds. There may be a subtle way you can tell hens from cocks, like the "eyeliner" on Welsummers for example, but this is not strictly autosexing, and is not foolproof!

Cuckoo Marans are autosexing surely? I know this was introduced along with the colour, but the breed is now established. I don't think any others are.

Actually, the person I need to ask is the girl who's getting them, except her husband wants to surprise her. I knew we had sexed our three Cuckoos last year with the white dot on the head, but I know nothing of Splash Marans. Maybe we should say no, they aren't auto-sexing for safety.

While we are on this topic, does anyone know if you can sex Amrock chicks? I've two with yellow fronts and one with a grey front. Their feather patterns (wing tips only at the mo) are all the same.....

Jules as far as I know you get splash by crossing blue/blue regardless of breed. Can't remember the % of splash v blue though. So if blues aren't autosexing, which I don't think they are, then splashes wont either. And marans are so'n'sos to sex when young.
