Two chicks (a cock and a hen i think?) that were 6 weeks old were taken to the allotment today leaving 6 chicks that are 3 weeks old to move into their dog cage when they are big enough.
It took a lot of work and shifting around of other residents to accomodate them though. They now reside in the hexagon hut which has a floor 2 foot from the ground.
I turfed the Faverolle cockerel and his four laydees out to make room. After cleaning out, disinfecting and putting new wood chippings down and new straw bedding, they have spent the day with the doorwedged open and mesh over entrance to stop them escaping.
I have three runs and three coops joined together so by cleverly shutting one lot out and cutting a trapdoor for others I have managed to give them all a coop to sleep and lay in and a run for each flock.
Once the chicks are bigger, I will open the trapdoor so that they can get into the run and close the run trapdoor to seperate them from others.
