If your neighbour is anything short of incredibly grateful to you for your actions, tell him/her that if it happens again you'll report him/her to the RSPCA. A greenhouse is not a suitable place for confining chickens, especially at this time of year. They need access to shade at all times, even when it's quite cool. I'm glad you had the sense to do something about it.

Just as well you noticed them, or they'd be roast chickens by now. Cannot believe your neighbour didn't actually go and check on them. We got to 25°C in the garden here in in Somerset, it maybe wasn't that hot up by you, but hot enough to kill chooks in a glass house. My girls were all of a fluster with the warmth yesterday and they were under the conifers in the shade. As Feather said, your neighbour should be incredibly grateful!!

Alls well that ends well. The chooks are fine and my neighbours were just leaving as I arrived after work. They were thankful for what I had done as they had been tied up in some sort of emergency and couldn't get to lottie.
After they left I had a peek over the fence. They've taken all three panes of glass out of the door and covered it with mesh so the chooks have plenty of air circulating. Good on them.

Its a lot colder today but chooks have a feather coat on and can get out of the draft so everything is hunkydory!

AAAAAARRRGGHHHH!!! what is the matter with these people greenhouses are for B****Y tomatoes not for chickens, it makes me feel sick I hear so much of it.
If you see it again ask him politely to shut himself in there for the same length of time wrapped in a duvet like they are. Give me strength!!

Glad it worked out OK Snadge. Stupidity about animals is always annoying, but at least some people are willing to learn!
Removing a high pane of glass was much the best option for cooling the place.
