  • update on our exbatts

in the depths of winter we rescued 12 exbatts. they are now fully rehabilitated and being adopted by vetted families. 4 are living the life of riley on the game keepers acreage. 3 are with a young family being spoilt rotten and fussed over. the neighbours are adopting another 3. the remaining 2 will be with us forever because of their specific needs, one(bella) is a bit arthritic and the other, beaky has a severe deformity. This winter we will be rescuing another batch and nursing them back to a full recovery until suitable adoption parents can be found, if they are physically able to be rehomed. I have discovered that there are many families out there that want to rescue these hens but need someone else to rehabilitate them before placement. Its wonderful to see them in their new homes and realise that i made that possible for them!

Ex-batts or ex-barn hens have to be the most rewarding birds to have. I'll always have a space for a few to enjoy their last days.

In some ways, i'm looking forward to when ours pop their cloggs, so we can replace with ex-batts heh
