I noticed the hen had a bloody butt a week and half ago. It was hiding in the corner of the chicken coop. (I think to get away from other hens from pecking at it) It is eating and drinking fine but doesn't hang around the other chickens. It is outside during the day pecking around but stays close to the coop. The hens butt is leaking out a clearishy gooey substains and the feathers are all brown and yucky. I don't think she is laying any eggs either. Her feet look speckled in black. This is the first time I had chickens and the people around me tell me to put it in the soup pot! (I feel I can't do that.) Anyone have any suggestionsl

You need Suechooks or Richmondhens to give advice as they both know what's what. I would advise a trip to vet tomorrow I think. Sounds like an antibiotic job maybe but I am new to hen keeping too. Can you isolate her at night from the others. Perhaps it's too late for tonight?!Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Don't leave her in there in heat. Thought maybe a cardboard box in house or garage overnight until you can get to vet. It sounds as though she needs checking out although it means a bill.
Good luck with her.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Have you actually picked her up and examined her? I think you need to get her to a vet or experienced keeper asap to assess what the problem is. She may have had a prolapse which has been pecked at, or she may have a stuck egg, or peritonitis. Whatever it is it sounds like she needs urgent attention. In the first instance catch her and bathe her bum in warm water to clean off all the muck and goo, and clip away the feathers from around her vent. Then you will able to have a better view of the problem. If left unattended any wound will attract flies and you risk fly strike or worse. Keep her separate from the other chickens but if she is active she can be outside in a run nearby so she can still see and hear them. But please do get her looked at by someone experienced. She will almost certainly need antibiotics so a vet would be your best bet.

You need to get her to the vet TOMORROW and meanwhile, isolate her from the other hens as they will peck at any bleeding injury and make it worse. In fact, this may actually have started by her being pecked and the others joining in.
