  • Welcome to this forum to myself

I am now, apparently, the owner of 3 geese, which will be visiting the freezer around Christmas time.
Mme Pastis told me the good news yesterday.
Always had chickens when the last Mme Leponge was in situ, but after she left I wasnt at home all the time so couldnt keep them.

This welcome addition both to my garden and my larder makes me very happy indeed. I love geese, both as garden creatures and to eat, so I shall insert a big fat

We had goose for the first time (ever, infact) last Christmas - it was amazing.. No going back to turkey now for us!

Just wish I had the space for for livestock to grow on for eating!

I love them too, Spongey. My three are pets. My Dad keeps saying he wants eat one, so I told him to help himself. That was two years ago!

Their enclosure is very overgrown tbh, its just been left to do as it wishes for the last couple of years, but Mme P has assured me that this will be sorted in no time.
I've asked her for some pix, I've not even seen them yet.
Goose is absolutely my favourite bird to eat (said without a flicker of a smile) and like you Chris, never turkey again for me at Christmas after having goose. Gorgeous.
My gardening guru at home has 2 geese, pets like yours G4 but they are bladdy nasty things, I'm sure mine will grow up to be lovely and sweet natured ... and then sweet!!

Its a toss up as to whats the best to guard your plot........a German Shepherd or a goose!

My Uncle had them when he lived out in the sticks.....they let bleeze when anyone got within a mile of his garden!

                'Grats Monsieur le Sponge.

How much space to geese need? Would I be better to get a couple of those than replace my stolen chooks?

geese need lots of grass, when I had 3 of them they used about as much grazing space as a goat.

Cool. Got home late last night and went out to see my girls. How awesome are they. I'd seen pix of when they were 2 weeks old, they are now 5 weeks old and hoooooooge.
They didnt know me at all and so ran away, didnt want to know me, but I shall get them used to me and have them eating out of my hands. Literally.

So in turn you can eat them out of your hands?

I need a place with a decent bit of land, I'd like to do so many things, but just lack the space (and time - bloomin work!)

Fat and greedy I am, but not even I could manage 3 on Christmas day. They have been called Christmas, Birthday and Nuggets, which may indicate their fate.
