  • henrietta the cockeral?????

    Hi folks,
anybody else got a chicken who thinks she's a boy? At 6am this morning I thought I heard a 'cook a doodle doo' on closer inspection having sussed out where it was coming from I spied henrietta giving it large - not quite the full-on call but very close!! Has anyone else experienced this? she's an ex-batt who we've had for over 2 years. I'm not too worried that the neighbours will complain as believe me the pigeons in our area were far more noisy this morning!

I've never had one who crowed, but do have a hen who started life feathering up like a cock and then changed her plumage to hen colours - we called her Half Cock! She went on to be a normal hen like all the others.

No, but both my Roos copy the 'I've just laid an egg' song when a group of girls start yelling it!

No but one of my hens regularly thinks she's a cock and mounts the girls.

I used to have a bird that was a right screamer too. Constant bloody noise. Then I gave her away to join others in an avairy.

I hope you weren't thinking I was being dirty!

Anyway, one of my chickens squawks really loudly when she's popped an egg out. She's *extremely* loud.. noiser than the cocks at the allotment site. She is a pretty large bird mind, my magpie.

I could never give away my screamer as despite her vocal strains daily, hourly, she is my favourite. I know you shouldn't have one as they are all my cluckie duckies but she is such a funky chicken!
CM I am shocked - was she a nortie gicken!

Several of my Batties have Spurs - I don't think it's that unusual. They all seem to be dominant ones, though!

rose petal our ex batt had spurs and she also did a bit of a cock_a_chick chick chickeeeee when she laid an egg. not at all like usual egg noises. She was the cockerel of the flock, and all hell broke out for a while when she died. i really wish i could have a real one thats "all bloke" to look after them.
