  • Chook with a poorly leg

as above, I have come home from a weekend away to have a chook with a bad leg (yes, yes, bad chook mother), she is still eating and drinking but is hopping about and not putting weight on her left leg, when I massage it her claws/toes are flexing and retracting and I cant feel anything amiss.
And she has layed all weekend albeit under the coop rather than in it, is a trip to the vet in order? comb is nice and red and eyes are bright and she is happy enough to be handled!

Maybe she's strained it? Have you checked under her foot for bumblefoot?

My guess is she has strained it in some way - landing awkwardly off a perch perhaps? Just keep an eye on her and see if she improves over the next few days. If not, then you may need a trip to the vet for anti-inflammatories but chances are she will slowly get better. As long as she is bright and alert in herself and still eating, drinking and laying then she can't be feeling too bad.

Thank you both, I checked for bumblefoot ( after I had googled it) but nothing was showing. she is much better today and managed to get into the coop to lay and put herself to bed.
        Thank you very much
