  • Chicken Expressions

Since getting some chooks I've noticed that there are loads of expressions related to chickens, here are some of mine can you think of any others.

    Are you Chicken?

    Hen Pecked

    Pecking Order

Its a chicken and egg situation

Don't put all your eggs in one basket

Flew the coop, or flew the nest

Diy before a baby is born is referred to as Nesting.

Small change is also known as Chicken feed.

Wrack your brains and tell me some more.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Running around like a headless chicken (although from where I'm from it's more so: buzzing around like a blue a**ed fly!)

the forum title, I guess - ruling the roost?

As rare as hens teeth (think you used this one a while back )...

My mum always used to say smells like wet chickens....

I remember someone who used to refer to anyone lording it around as, 'He thinks he's the Boss Cocky'.
            Oh, remembered another.
My gran used to call anyone who was a bit eccentric a Cock Egg (because they are vanishingly rare I should think!)

My dad used to say "A whistling woman and a crowing hen, are neither fit for God nor men".
              Scratching out a living.
              Feather your nest.
              Fussing like an old hen.
              Cackle like a hen.

              Ooh, hen pecked (nagged)
              Dumb cluck

The chickens have come home to roost (or should that be pigeons?)
              Brood about it.
              Pecking order.
              Hatch an idea.

                      Madder than a wet hen
                      Cock of the walk (North)
Chicken brained..although I'm not sure how much of an insult that is now I've had them for a while.
As the old rooster crows, so the young rooster will too

Which came first - chicken or the egg?

My personal favourite is "where's my garlic porridge?" Ah yes, that isnt the saying you're after but it's the first one I get every morning!
