That is such a good idea!!

The excrement hit the turbine this evening. The BH came home and he's very cross to find that we have eggs, and even more upset to discover that six are duck eggs. The duck eggs are supposedly going to DD's friend who has ducks which are broody. I suspect that they are actually going back where they came from. I have been under the impression that my BH knew about this plan before it was...er...hatched. I thought the DD had sought permission, but no, she hadn't. I should have known better.

The BH is pleased that the ducks are going, but I'm not sure what he'll think when the courier brings my Marans eggs tomorrow. I had hoped he was going to be out, but he's home tomorrow. He will think me as bad as the daughter!

I think your entire family sounds a bit eggcentric!

Mad as hatters, which means there isn't a peaceful moment to be had usually. The duck eggs went today, and Shirley Partridge-Wyandotte now has 6 Marans eggs instead. At least we are down to 18 eggs from 24 now.

Just hope for a poor hatch/fertility rate, Jules!

I think the BH has got used to the fact that we are going to have chooks with chicks. It's not that he doesn't like them, but we really had decided not to hatch anything this year and the DD has, effectively, made sure we can't go camping as there will be too many things for our helpful neighbours to cope with. I think maybe DD can stay home whilst we go on holiday...hoist by her own petard! We are looking forward to seeing the Seramas, although I don't have much faith in the 'bator. And Copper Blue & Splash Marans were on my wish list. We'll just have to see what hatches!

So far, we have six Serama eggs incubating in the 'bator. My daughter thinks I don't know about them. Then, we have five hybrid eggs under one broody and six Marans eggs under the other. I think we've got a fortnight to go yet though before anything hatches.

Aren't they just majestic. I see they were introduced to the UK in 2004 by a Mr Bacon. Who would have thought someone with a name like that would have an interest in poultry

What came first, Bacon or the eggs?

Bacon in my house, I like it done a bit more than usual - the eggs go in when it's pretty much cooked

Or... Perhaps the eggs, as they're often laid before the shopping is delivered.. That said, I don't know how old the pig was. My chickens are coming up to a year old. ho hum, that's a tough one
