One of my chickens has been acting very strange today, and inspecting it as it went to bed, I have found that one of its eyes is watering quite badly, it looks quite weak and isnt eating, is this serious?
Is the eye open or shut? Could it have been injured or have a foreign body in it? The weakness/not eating may be unrelated. Has the hen lost weight from when you last handled her? I have had birds with injured/infected eyes on several occasions but they sure as hell can run away fast enough when I try and catch them!!
Our 3 chickens do have a little go at each other quite often, it is acting normally apart from the eye being shut and seeping a clear fluid. It has eaten before roosting and the comb is bright red and upright.
This morning the chicken in question has both eyes open, is very happy, laid an egg and is now off to venture the flowerbeds for the day, so all is good.
