  • Green eggs, no ham !

Her name is Rose but not sure of the breed. Today she has laid a small greeny/ blue egg ! she is white all over with a small white crest on her head. She is slight but not a bantam, only just at lay so about 21 weeks old, not sure may just be a late starter. I was expecting a white egg as she has white ears !, any ideas ?

Do you mean that the shell was green/blue or the egg inside? If you mean the shell - lucky you! We wanted a bird that would lay a blue/green egg but they are apparently quite hard to find and in great demand!

From the research I have done I would think you have a cream/white legbar or white Araucana - these seem to be the types that lay a blue/green egg.

I am sure that Grapes with more knowledge will be along soon to correct me though!

Enjoy you first egg, still waiting for mine

      Cream. white legbar

Thanks Terry, yes you are right I have looked them up and she is indeed a cream ( who is white ! ) legbar so we should get more blue eggs ! We have a mixed flock of 7 ! all who lay different coloured eggs and they do look nice put togther, running free and on grass they also taste wonderful with full orage yolks, what ever the shell colour.

Glad to be of help! Got our very first egg today. Daft hen layed in the run not the coop, rescued it before they trod on it or decided it was lunch so that's ok.

Now I have to wait for another as the first was Hazels - they being her birds officially.
