  • Red Mite and 5 day old chicks....

Sorry, pain in the arris I know!

I am concerned. I have just cleaned out the chooks out doors and the layers have a red mite issue!

I am going to poultry shield it and powder the birds tonight.

Anyway to my point, as I sit a type this I have found a couple of the little buggers still on me, after a shower.

I have 5 day old chicks in the kitchen I am worried I might pass them to them, what can I do?

I think it's quite unlikely you will infest the chicks in your kitchen (don't they smell?). As a precaution always deal with chicks first, layers after but I don't think there is any need to panic. The two you found may well have been the only two so I wouldn't worry about it TBH.

      Thanks. Phew!

The little chicks dont smell at the moment but when they get big enough to jump out of the box they are transferred to the brooder cage in the basement!
