  • help for poorly chicken please

Just as I thought I was getting the hang of keeping my 3 chickens ...one of my girls is stitting down a lot, still eating, drinking, and laying but her tail is dropped and her back appears hunched.
I hadn't treated them for worms yet as I have only had them about 3 months (not ex bats, and fully vaccinated). They had until recently been in contact with wild birds and rabbits.
I was going to treat them for worms but has anyone got anyother suggestions please what may be wrong with her?She is not too unwell at present but not really herself.

Has she layed in the last couple of days? She sounds as if she could be egg bound. You can try giving her a warm bath. Sometimes this can help relax them and help the egg to be laid, specially if its soft or thin shelled.
If its not that try feeling her crop in the morning and see if she could have an impacted crop.
Other than that she might just be having an off day or 2.
Keep a close eye on her though she sounds as if something is going on. Do you have a vet with interest in poultry? Might be worth a visit if you have.

my ex batts used to do exactly this when egg bound. Warm water or warm hot water bottle with a bit of olive oil round the vent. Also I brought mine into the warm in a dog crate with mash and shallow drinker in easy reach.

Thank you will try the hot water. There had been a couple of soft shelled eggs earlier in the week but I wasn't sure who had laid them.
