give us a bit more detail on the iron tablet-what brand and dosage sounds like a good one to keep in the first aid kit especially as red mite seem to appear all of a sudden this year..........

The iron tablets are ferrous sulphate 210mg, and they were prescribed for me as I'm anaemic. I've always got shedloads because I can't take as many as the doctor says I should because it causes other problems. You can buy iron tablets in the chemist though. We've currently got Shirley on children's Minadex tonic which has all the vitamins and iron in it that the Nutri-Drops have and costs significantly less.

Shirley went back in with the other girls today. She's looking quite perky and seems to be enjoying the company. We've stopped the iron tablets now but still have her on Minadex tonic 5ml twice a day. Yesterday she had her eye on Morag's eggs when Morag left them for ablutions, but we've decided against giving Shirley her own eggs back as she's not well enough yet. There seems to be movement in 4 out of 5 eggs as far as we can see through such dark shells, so fingers crossed!! (two days to go)

Bless her - she's a little fighter! Bought a bottle of Minadex tonic today to build up my Silkie who's been sitting on 2 goose eggs for 4 weeks!

My eldest son is a chemist, and he says the ingredients are almost exactly the same as the special, and very expensive, chook drops we bought.

Yes I've used those in the past so was interested in your info. I noticed in Boots that none of the vitamin drops have iron in.

You can get liquid iron supplements such as Floradix or Feroglobin or Vital Iron from health shops. The Vital Iron is quite expensive, but the others aren't bad.
