  • Sudden Death :-(

One of my birds died at a show today

He wasn't ill, and was absolutely fine yesterday and this morning.

We penned the birds about 8am; and when we returned after judging, he'd been removed, as he had collapsed and his breathing was rattling

We immediately took him away, to take him home. However he didn't even make it to the car

I have no idea what has happened.

He has never been to a show before, and is quite young and I was wondering whether the shock of car travel and penning just sent him over the edge?

Oh that's an awful shock and very confusing. I hope you aren't blaming your self though.

Poor you, what a shock. He quite possibly had a heart attack, perhaps the stress of the show was a bit much. It's a bit late now, but I would have sought out the show vet (there is usually one on duty) and got his opinion.

It was only a small show within a large agri show.... it all happened pretty quick, so I doubt a vet would have been able to do anything...

I was supposed to enter into another similar show in a few weeks, but think I'll only be entering eggs (despite having 3 other birds entered and fine in this one).

Don't want to risk anyone else....

Very shocking, and awful for you too. I can only think it was stress, but one would think there would be other signs, unless it was a heart attack as RH said. Don't blame yourself though, no one could have known what would happen.
