Yes they were very dark eggs.. im not very good at breeds of eggs, and i got these given, he said there was marans, light sussex and welsummer in them, mostly light sussex... silly me lol. The only thing i can garuantee, is theyre pures, as he kept them all in seperate pens..

I have hatched light sussex and marans - those are marans, white sussex are yellow chicks.

Yes they look like marans. Light Sussex chicks have pale yellow down, as the others have said, and Welsummer are light brown with darker brown stripes, like a chipmunk. I believe you can sex day old marans too - the males have a lighter spot on their head.

Oh Sally I wish you'd put that on before!!!!!!!! I have 6 Marans chicks - 2 definite boys, 2 definite girls and 2 sort of in-between! Could be under developed boys or advanced girls ! That's going by the head gear anyway. Can't tell from their tails either, or hackles or saddle feathers yet. Some days they're boys some days they're girls some days there's one of each!

Very cute - have they got feathery legs? My Copper Blacks were born with the fluffy legs just appearing.

21 Chicks out of 30 eggs.. not bad for a very first hatch... no hair left, and STILL pulling it.. 3 of them now have splayed legs, but only one leg

Gonna give them till after work tomorrow and get them a plaster as a splint if they havent improved.

I have 17 looking like those in my photos.. marans?, feet are clean, no feathers

3 yellowy, almost white, with black beak and black feet, also with feathers on their feet,

1 yellowy, almost white, with yellow feet and no feather... they mystery chicks LOL
