  • Chook sitting but not laying

My bluebell has sat on the nest every day for the last 6, but has only laid on two of them. She's become a bit sporadic anyway, I've checked and she doesn't have one stuck but is it normal behaviour to try to lay and not do so.

Would I be wise taking a trip to the vet with her?
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Would have thought that she was broody. Has she lost her feathers on her breast?

I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will be along soon.

My Sussex does it all the time, she lays most days but even on the days when she doesn't produce an egg she still goes in to the nest box and stays put there for the usual length of time.

Yes, I have a couple of Batties that do it too. I think they go and sit in there for the peace and quiet! If she's still laying, I would say that she's not broody. How old is she?
