  • Sick cockerel..............

Dont know whether its just old age or not but I've got a feeling my ever faithful old Faverolle cockerel we be lucky to see the night out.
Its a shame because he's a true gentleman to both his laydees and myself.

I hatched him about for years ago, he's NEVER had a go at me, he eats from my hand always lets his harim have everything first and loves white bread!

He will be sorely missed. When i picked him up to put him in a comfortable place in the dry coop, even though he's a big bird, he weighed hardly anything. He's lethargic and the brightness has gone from his eyes and his comb.

Poor old soul has never been right since he was set on by another cockerel who managed to get in his run with him.

I just hope he passes away peacefully.

            Thanks for enquiring about him.
As it happens I called at the lottie this morning especially to check up on him and was surprised to find he had moved from the corner of the coop and was by the door. I gave him a handful of pellets and put a bit of corn beside him.
I cracked one of the chooks eggs and gave him that along with a bit of poultry spice mixed in. I also put a cup full of water beside him and made him drink a small amount when I was there.
Still not convinced he will pull arouind though!

He might surprise you yet. Have you tried Nutridrops? They can turn them round very quickly.

Just an update. He's still alive but isn't moving about.

What brought a tear to my eye was that three laydees from his harim are lying down around him, comforting him? They must have an inert sense he's dying and they are saying their last farewells.

He's just like me............a big soft auld lump at heart!

my two rescue warrens Thelma and Louise (what else!?) sat together when Louise was dying. I didnt have the heart (or stomach) to dispatch or take her to be pts, and as it was a nice sunny day and they were in the favoured spot between apple tree and grape vine with no hassle form the rabble I left them to it. Thelma sat there all day and only moved once her sister was dead. It was quite emotional bless. Hope he is peaceful too x
