should i get another hen or rehome lone one? thoughts please

hi all

as some of you may know my hen passed away 2 weeks ago i have miranda left who at the moment is on her own i didnt think i wanted anymore so was looking to rehome her, i may have found a good home with a friend of mine but now i am thinking i may get another hen to keep miranda company and keep them both. do you think it will be a problem to put a younger hen with miranda, she is 3 or would she relish the company? any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well hens hate being alone, so she definately needs company.
'Spose the real issue is do or don't you want hens any more?
If no, then obviously rehome her.
If you do then remember that unless you get another the same age you will have the same problem again when Miranda passes on. That's why it's better to keep hens as threesomes. But if you get an older hen..she may not lay, a young one may bully Miranda (as she's timid).
FWIW I would say rehome, after all if it's with a friend you can still visit with treats, once she has settled in.

Alternatively, get one more, then when they have settled together, get two more, so you have four. That will remove the worry when one dies, as there won't be just one left. But that's up to you!
