Flubenvet does work on tapeworm even at normal dosing levels, I know because my girls had a real problem with it. I lost valuable treatment time because I was sold Vermex as a wormer and that doesn't work. (In fact Vermex paid for the poo samples to be tested twice and both times they came back clear although I could clearly see the worms moving when the samples were sent off. The testing centre then said they don't test for tapeworm!) I have never withdrawn eggs but was told I shouldn't sell eggs if treating with Flubenvet. In fact I had to sign a form saying so.

To kill these you need to up the rate ie give the powder to 15 hens instead of 20, or perhaps in 15kg of food rather than 20kg, but then there is an egg withdrawal period. I can look for the article if anyone's interested....
I'm sending some poo samples off for a worm count this week (the girls not mine) - thought it might be a good way of getting my girls assessed generally.
I agree Jess. I had a worm count done when one of mine was ill last year and it was very reassuring to see the count was at zero 2 weeks after worming. Showed that the Flubenvet was effective which was great as we have problems with heavy roundworm infestations with all the slugs and snails.

Very heartening to hear that flubenvet is effective. You also need a degree in maths to work out how to dose 30 chickens, 4 turkeys and 20 ducks.... but thats another story....fortunately my 15 year old son listens in maths.........

Hmm, just to stoke the debate - her article deffo says that flubenvet doesn't kill tapeworm. If the 60g tub is only sold as the 1% dose maybe this is why? the other Flubenvet is sold as 2.5% strength which would be more effective perhaps?.. I don't know really...Anyway, i've bought Marriages pellets with the stuff in so now sums for me!
yes, I'll be interested to see the results of the worm count. I've just wormed and coxoided mine...
Lovely sunny day here in north Lancs, I'm off to walk my dogs round a limestone knoll by the sea. We had our first frost last night so I guess thats why its so clear.

Does anyone know which strength Flub they put in the pellets? I usually buy the 2.5% stuff anyway but would be interesting to know.

Sure its 2.5%. I looked at it a while back thinking I would give it a go.

Just remembered that it's not suitable for turkeys so thats why I stuck with the flub in the tub.

Interesting stuff - for info I use the 2.5% Flubenvet powder to mix in

I got a 240g 2.5% strength and with only a few hens it will be out of date long before I get to the bottom of the tub.

It won't matter what strength they put in because they'll just adjust the dose accordingly.

Having kept livestock in general, if ANY animal is kept mainly on the same ground, you need an occasional change of wormer, because the worms develop an immunity. I know this applies to sheep, goats, pigs, cattle and horses, so I can't imagine poultry would be completely different!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
