Spotty my oldest ex-batt has very watery poo. She hasn't laid for about a year and has good and bad days but the last 3 days has looked a little hunched and her poo is very watery. She's eating but not as much as usual although she'll still fight for worms or grapes. I have had to give her quite a few baths this year as her bum gets quite mucky sometimes. She's just been wormed but I think this might be a kidney problem. Any thoughts? I admit I am reluctant to visit the vet as I think I know the outcome. She's proved me wrong twice before though and got better after a visit to the vet.

Been to the vet and was able to see the one I wanted after all. He thinks it's a fungal infection and worth having a go at treating. (Was that what you suspected Petal?) Anyway she's on Metronidazole tablets for 20 days! Easy to administer as she only has to have a quarter so it fits inside a grape but my neighbour is going to have to do it and I haven't seen her yet to ask her. Ho hum. As usual my OH is muttering about how many roast chickens he could have had for the price of the vet but I'm just pleased to come home with her. (I thionk he is too but has to do the macho bit)
Poor old Spotty has just staritng moulting too so that's not going to help her feel on top form.

I took poo sample with me as usual! (The newspaper that was under the perch last night.) I have been using poultry spice lately in porridgy mix but girls eat it quicker when there's no poultry spice in so I assume they are not keen on it. Vet said Spotty had no sign of tumours or ascitis but crop felt a little squidgy. She hasn't been keen on pellets or corn for last couple of days but eating grapes and as OH has been very busy in the garden this week has had lots of worms, slugs etc. I've just got some live yogurt tonight too and all the girls love that.
Yes Sue, this was Spotty's third visit top the vet since I've had her so hopefully she will bounce back again.
