True, yet chicks can be raised all year round in heated barns with light(imagine the cost!)

I couldn't be doing with having chicks through the winter - too much faffing about. As Snadge says leave it to mother nature. There is nothing better than the sight of a broody hen and her offspring scratching around on the spring grass.
