Panic panic!!!

OMG!!!!

One of our geese had managed to impale it's chin on a piece of barbed wire earlier this evening!
No idea for how long- anything up to 3 hrs.
It was utterly exhausted and collapsed against the fence.
OH managed to unhook her, but the spike had gone up into it's tongue from under it's chin and was dripping blood

We hosed her neck/chin and cold compressed it for about 1/2 hr and then purple sprayed it .
We put them away for the night- and have just gone back to check on her- expecting to have to do 'the right thing'
Anyway- fantastic news- apart from a very swollen chin she was as active as the other geese- and no signs of blood.
Fingers crossed it doesn't get infected now!

( They're for the freezer soon anyway- so I don't want to give her antibiotics)

Still- after one heck of a panic- she looks fine now bless her

Phew! Now I know why I don't keep livestock. Glad everything seems to be ok

Get her in the freezer quick! She's probably one of those curious types that get up to no good...

I really hadn't realised how clumsy geese are until we started keeping them- trip over anything- including their own feet.
Daft as brushes- but so, so sweet!

I only have my two Boys, and they are soooooo comical. They used to fight over their sister, and I was always having to catch one and put it back in. Could fly out, but not back over the same fence! Stoooopid, clumsy things, but very very entertaining. Glad she's OK!

She's very sore this morning

We're keeping a close eye on her- at least she's eating and drinking and running around with the others!

Tonight you'd never have known there'd been a prob.
She's still a tad swollen under her chin- but otherwise hissing/wa wa wa-ing and gobbling up her supper with the rest!


All tucked up in bed now...what a relief!
