I think you're right Hilary B, inbreeding would be my best (if uneducated) guess too. I have no intention of breeding with them - my hens are for eggs and entertainment only at the moment, and I don't want a load of chicks to find homes for. If / when I do decide to breed - and I can imagine the bug will get me in the end
- it will be probably be araucanas, and I'll get the hens and the cock from different places to make sure they're not related in any way. But I think I need to spend some time learning about chickens first - oh, and convincing the OH they're nice to have around
. And you're right, I do need to keep reminding myself these 2 may not be with me forever
