Frozen eggs.............

With the chooks laying anywhere between three and eight eggs a day I have been leaving them in the allotment shed until I had enough to box up.
No more though!!!!
I went this evening and two eggs had cracked with the frost!

Being uncertain about the other ten or so, I decided to smash them and give my four cockerels a treat.
Only about four of the remaining tem were frozen when I smashed them..............but the cockerels didn't mind!

Taking eggs home each night now until this freezing weather abates.

ours are not frozen as various hens want to go broody so eggs are always kept warm! Regular collection and regular turfing out of broodies occurs here!!

Same here. Got three broody bantams at the moment but all are youngsters. Will wait till some of the old timers go broody and then start setting eggs.

Frozen eggs are OK to eat by the way Snadge, they just won't last as long as a normal one.

Wow, must have been cold for them to freeze in the shed!

Makes you realise how warm hens are really - non of our eggs froze even in the -10 temps last year in the hen coop.
