  • salmonella

    Hello.

A few month ago I bought some chicks from our local petting zoo kind of thing (crealy)
And unfortunately they both ended up being cocks.

I was just about to kull one and prep it to eat, but then the wife said she won't eat it.
Because I had not treated them for salmonella.

I have kept chickens and ducks for years, but I have never treated any for this.

    Am I supposed to?
And what else am I supposed to treat them for?

    Best wishes!

Salmonella bacteria is common in poultry meat and eggs, I have never heard of treating animals for this but I may be wrong!
You can get the bacteria by handling poultry or other animals and not washing your hands afterwards. Thoroughly cooking the meat/eggs will kill the bacteria - thats why we are told not to serve poultry pink and eggs are served hard in restaurants.
    Enjoy your dinner!

it does double post sometimes! Salmonella, more likely to get that from some nasty battery farmed, tortured chicken than one home reared.

Just make sure you observe normal kitchen hygeine. 99.999% of cases of salmonella can be traced to failures in this area.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
