  • Unusual eggs???

I've had a few unusual eggs over the years and each one has puzzled me,
I found this site which explains some of them- it's really interesting!

ADozenGirlz, the Chicken Chick: How a Hen Makes an Egg & Egg Oddities.

Perhaps you have piccies of your unusual eggs?- or would like to tell us about them?

So far I can say we've had a few double yolkers ( the heaviest being 103g! ouchy ouch!)
A rubber egg from a new layer
    Several flat sided eggs
    A few pimpled eggs
    A few sandpaper eggs
    A camouflage egg
    Very thin shelled eggs
    Occasional ones with blood spots

...oh and ewww.....a dead chick and a black rotten egg we found hidden.

I've had what was the start (I believe) of a triple-yolker, which was MASSIVE. I think I posted about it here... just enourmous, I thought someone was playing a prank on me and put a duck/turkey egg in the nestbox.

I've had a few crinkled eggs before, rough ones as you say like sandpaper, and then ones with stains on them - which after grabbing one that was literally just popped out (caught it ) I found the bloom (or whatever it's called) was still running down the egg, and when it was dried it left the streaks i'd been seeing.

Photos just don't do them justice do they?

We had one very small egg the other day, which has an odd shell with bumps on and a slightly flat side. It seemed to be mixed up with a bit of shell-less egg, almost as though part of the egg got left out of the shell! It's the one at the left of the pic showing several eggs.

Then we got a large long one which had no pointy bits! Both ends were matching, and were sort of flat. Tricky to know which way up to store this one! (second from left). The light coloured egg underneath shows the more 'normal' one we get from the adult layers, although one of them does have a habit of producing elongated eggs with 2 pointy ends.

The most unusual one was this morning when I thought we'd got an ostrich on the loose or something. It's just over 100g - our scales only go up in 20s so I don't know exactly - and I can only assume it's one of the new layers based on its colour - the small brown one is what we normally get from them! Poor thing's only been laying a week!

The photo showing a single egg is the 'no pointy bits' one again - it shows the shape better.

Really interesting! Loved the egg within the egg. And its good to know wht I have had some stripy eggs - may be I need to increase ventilation even more when hot.
