  • Pure Breed Cochin Cockerel....

Remember Edie turned in to Eddie? Well, Eddie is crowing now so he has to go and I'm going to put an ad in today. Any ideas how much you'd pay for a pure breed Splash Cochin?

To be honest I think you will be lucky just to give him away - there is always a surplus of cockerals, regardless of the breed. Cheap dinner?

I don't mind giving him away, but I thought I might try to get a few pounds for him first.

In the past I have asked folk for a donation towards the charity I work. Someone gave £20 for a lemon sabelpoot cockerel which was fabulous. Someone else gave a fiver for a fine pekin boy.....just a thought!

whilst I would pay about £15 for a really decent show quality cockerel,.... I think you will be lucky shifting him even if he is ftgh- there are so many hobby breeders around and loads of cockerels out there that so many people can't dispatch- even cross breeds- hence the problem in shifting a nice cockerel like yours.

A Cochin cockerel is likely to make a pet, for anyone who can handle the noise. The few I've had were as soft as you can imagine, much better suited to a child's pet than a bantam! "Cuddles" (tells you all about him) was a Cochin, I think what is now known as 'splash', but back then (nearly 30 years ago) he was simply a mismarked blue. Mated to a black hen we got some beautiful blue pullets (unfortunately the hen was a bantam, but the 2 pullets were 'not bad' layers and great broodies).
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
