Blind chicken

Hi everyone
Sorry I haven't been on here for ages, but I've got a real problem and don't know how to deal with it (neither does the vet). My blue ranger who is around a couple of years old has gone blind and stopped eating. Has anyone any ideas how to help? I'd really appreciate any advice.

Hi DDL- nice to hear from you.

Have a little gooooogle of 'blind hens'. It seems that if you can find another blind chook to keep it company then they will prosper. Less stress and less bullying apparently. Increased egg production too.
Perhaps you could ask on some of the poultry forums if anyone has one- even if it's an old non-layer?????

If you can't find one then you must have her put too sleep. By the way, blindness is connected to mareks,(and vaccinations only last about 18 months of a hens life) so look out for symptoms such as limping, droopy wing, severe loss of weight. Its very hard when you are fond of an animal but I have had to explain to my little girl yesterday that they do suffer and don't have human logic to rationalise an illness. For a hen, being blind must be terrifying, she must think a predator could get her at any moment and she can't see it to avoid it.
