Can't you wait and see what the association say? They may say no more, after this lot have gone? Long shot, but it could be worth it.

Maybe worth a try. Snadge. Even Stockbrokers have hearts!
And you're not being a Drama Queen - I'd feel exactly the same way. What about a letter of support from the allotment holders who don't object. Outvote this objectionable newbie.

There are a line of houses at the top end of the allotments and two of the householders who live there have allotments with chickens and ducks. Ducks aren't allowed either but two wrongs don't make a right so good luck to the him with his ducks. My next door neighbour also has cockerels but good luck to him also.

            .
you do know why, it's because someone new has moved there and doesn't like the noise....why not go round and see them, introduce them to sid, and see exactly what it is that's causing the problem, the noise of one may be ok, but 7 too much, and see if there's a compromise.

I'd rather not go down that route as I could be opening a can of worms for other plotholders? Lets just say the association heirachy aren't squeaky clean!

                Ah

Well, was it your boys that were complained about, or the other plot holders ? Surely if this person doesn't like the noise, if you remove your lads from the equation, they'll just complain again?

Ok, you live miles away- so I am assuming you let them out at say 8am and put away at night, otherwise the noise of 7 cockerels free to get up at 5am would drive people mad? I would pop round to the new people and apologise if so, introduce them 2 the 1 cockerel you would like to keep and see what happens. you have nothing to lose! Perhaps these people don't work, so have too much time on their hands- you could recommend they get an allotment and get involved?

I dunno, the sound of an incessantly yapping dog drives me MAD, far worse than any cockerel call in the distance at 6am! How come there is nothing you can do about a poxy, yappy, nasty little dog, thats far far worse, in my opinion! lets hope these new people have one living next to them so they learn the true meaning of irritating.

Snadge, can you caponise them? Or maybe say they have been caponised. A capon after all isn't a cockerel is it? or is it?

Isn't there anyone close by or ask your local RSPCA to take them off your hands. There's only one throat I'd want to be holding here! If you were nearer I'd come and get them, give the farmer at the back of me. Chickens and roosters wandering all over the yard there.
What gets me is that folk have become so intolerant of other folk over the years. There were hens and roosters kept at the top of my grandmother's neighbour's garden...yes I remember grinding my teeth at five in the morning in high summer, but c'est la vie. People seemed to be a little more forgiving somehow. I feel I'm in the wrong era nowadays - I hate how we've become.
So sorry Snadger, so so sorry

Thats very true, I do hope that there will be a solution to this- I love to hear about Sid. This could easily happen to us too- there are new people who have moved in to the house opposite(quite some distance) who commented on hearing the cockerels in the distance the morning- they are from london- yes i said- thats the wonderful sound of the country, beats the dull throb in your ears of traffic. they had to agree.

So sorry for you Snadge. The worst thing is that if these newbies could give it a try, after 6 months they wouldn't notice the sound any more as they become accustomed to it.
