Finally after a long wait my girls have arrived. I was intending on getting some pure breeds but was too impatient to wait so I've settled on a variety of hybrids (I hope to add a cream legbar and a wellsummer in a couple of months when they are ready)

Bark can harbor mould spores, which in bad news for a chickens respiratory system.. wood chip would be better (obviously, making sure it's now Yew if you get it from tree surgeons/the council).
Are the grey-ish ones bluebells?
Ahhh, I want some more!!!!

Hi Chris, thanks for advice about wood bark/wood shavings, yes those are both bluebelles (one is inthe coop the now and I think she's trying to lay a wee pressie for me).
Hi Newtothis, It looks like my black rock (rhode rock) is top hen, she kinda made that clear within 5 mins of them arriving, lol.

oh black rocks are funny! ours used to be top hen too! Looks like you have a nice range of birds that will keep you supplied with lots of lovely eggs- but i would not add any more to your space. we get wood chips from the tree surgeon for free- just find your local one.

We had an evening show in Glasgow today, hoped to be back before nightfall to ensure that the girls managed back into their coop. We arrived back after dark but needn't have worried as they were all in the coop and one of them had even left us a wee present in the middle of the run. 2 eggs on their first day - well chuffed
